Fake Your Own Moon Landing

Submitted by on Thursday, 8 December 2011No Comment

Have you have ever wanted to fake your own Apollo moon landing? As they say at Apple, there’s an app for that. MoonWalking is a new £0.69 ($0.99) app that enables you to experience the Apollo landing at Tranquillity Base complete with Neil Armstrong making his famous step for mankind. Unlike a boring video recreation from the Discovery Channel, MoonWalking takes place in augmented reality.

The app enables you use your iPhones camera to watch the Eagle lander descend and land in your own  garden (or where ever you choose). These are not tiny little graphics that you can experience on your living room table, you’ll need a large outdoor space to view the action. Being an augmented reality application you are able to walk around the action and view it from different angles. You can toggle between real world action, ie the action takes place on your immediate surrounding, or you can enable the virtual moonscape mode which will give the action the authentic feel.

Unfortunately, for me the app requires an iPhone 4/4S or iPad 2 with 3G or this would be on my purchase list. Being a space buff, I’d be interested in hearing from anyone who gives this one a go. It looks like fun.
